Ecstatic ritual can be physical, but I get your meaning. You are asking if trad witches celebrate the sabbats by flying or crossing the hedge and/or with holiday rites in the compass. The answer is both, but usually witches who have other witch friends locally celebrate with them in the compass (this is what I and my circle mates do), and those that don’t visit witch friends by flying to the sabbat (which lonely road witches do*).
Doreen Valiente describes some wonderful holiday Sabbats in Witchcraft for Tomorrow. She and her coven mates were all prancing about after a ritual in the woods blowing horns and singing and generally making a musical ruckus. This is the wild hunt in actuality—the escstatic dancing and playing and music making of a witches sabbat.
The lonely road witch will do the same thing, but by flying to the witches sabbat and meeting up with others to dance and be wild things. You may begin these solitary rites by treading the mill, working with the virtues of flying plants, or other means of crossing the hedge.
*Truly all witches practice alone at some point, but I mean those who don’t have local witch friends.
