Lady Liberty Statue at St. Martins, sculpted in 2007 by Black artist Theodore Bonev as a commemoration of the emancipation proclamation and three other gorgeous Black Goddesses or women. Widely distributed with false attribution to Frederic Auguste Bartholdi sculptor of the Statue of Liberty. This amazing man deserves credit for his masterpiece, and certainly it should not be attributed to a white man!
Lady Liberty aka Columbia is considered something of a new world goddess. Representing and fighting for freedom from the revolutionary war forward. I’d like to think she is still fighting for our freedoms. And despite her many forms, I certainly do see her as a Woman of Color beginning with the polished copper skin of the original statue that Bonev loosely based his Lady Liberty on.
