Witch a: let’s do this awesome ritual I had a dream vision of us doing to make sure we get to marry the person we love instead of who the governors say we can.
Witch b: whoa so much yes, when?
Witch c: why not the night before thanksgiving? Everyone gets it off and doesn’t have to do anything til late in the day–so it wouldn’t matter if we stayed up all night to do this secret ritual in the woods.
Witch a: yeah, let’s do it thanksgiving’s eve.
Witch b: cool
Witch c: see you there, I’ll bring my girlfriend, she wants to join the cult.
Witch 250 years later z: Since prehistoric America, witches have celebrated Thanksgivings Eve as a fertility ritual. The witches stayed up all night to ensure there would be plenty in the year to come by bringing in a new young woman into the group. The next day a giant bird god presided over the festival. Turkeys and eagles are correspondences to this god, as are butter and round balls.
