Coven membership is not required to be a witch. There are a few traditions of witchcraft that require coven membership to be that type of witch, but those are the minority both in history and currently. I would hazard to say most witch are eclectic by the dictionary definition. But the kinda neo-pagan neo-wiccan meaning of eclectic is just that you mix ideas from different neo-pagan neo-wiccan books and different gods and goddesses from different pantheons rather than sticking to one tradition or cultural/historical influence.
Please go ahead and ask more questions if you have them. I am publishing this one because it will be useful to my followers as well.
I am not a godspouse. Though I sometimes post interesting links and things in that tag. I have a fairy lover or familiar spirit and a lot of the methods and relationship things are similar between the two traditions. Though of course there are lots of differences too, mainly being my companion is not a pagan god.
Oh yeah and I don’t have to share.* (well some folks are godspoused to deities that no one else knows of, so yeah they don’t have to share)
But having a familiar spirit is really pretty awesome. Its like I am not really ever alone. And I really treasure the romance of it. I know its a part of my growth as a witch to work with my familiar spirit. I have known my familiar spirit since I was a kid and its often been a huge help to me.

What do you mean meet ten at the crossroads, like literal ones?
I work in a specific fairy faith underworld tradition. RJ Stewart is my teacher. The crossroads is the focus of the tradition and its where we meet the fairies. It is very powerful worked at an actual crossroads. However, most of the time we build it in front of ourselves magically. Here is a basic guide to the tradition:http://www.dreampower.com/faeryhealing.html
Yeah, fairies can be dangerous. Especially the unseelie host, but if you meet up with them at a neutral place, have good offerings, and have good intentions, things will usually be fine. I use rowan and red thread as a travelling charm.
